Family Picnic at Brodhead Park

"Multi-generational Faithfulness"
God's Plan for our Families
Church Family Picnic
Brodhead Park
August, 2010

We all had such a great time together, as a church family. The food was TERRIFIC! The fellowship was sweet. And, the lessons from God's Word were so edifying and inspiring. We are so blessed to share our church family at CBC.

What a Great Camping Trip!

The Lord blessed our church family this past weekend at Hickory Run State Park. What a terrific time it was, spending time together, learning from God's Word, enjoying nature, hiking Boulder Field, sitting by the campfire making s'mores, playing Capture the Flag, swimming, and even jumping off of a waterfall into icy waters.

In all, there were 48 of us who "roughed it". The campsites were nicely shaded and in a fairly proximate location to one another. Walking around the loop once, led to so many fun visiting opportunities with other CBC friends. The kids especially enjoyed the freedom of visiting on bikes and on foot. Each night we gathered around a campfire together.

On Saturday, 20 more from our church family joined us, as we shared a hike, picnic, and a sesson led by Pastor Chris.

"Growing Closer as Families Through Life's Challenges" was the weekend's theme. Keith talked with us about the conflicts that man faces within himself, Pastor Chris discussed the challenges that man faces with others, and Pastor Lee concluded with a challenge related to the challenges man faces that come from his environment. Biblical examples were explored at each session, and we were inspired to trust the Lord and remain in obedience to Him through our many trials.

Thank you to the Esbins for planning this wonderful event!

Calvary Extends a Helping Hand...

Thank you to all of you who made the, "Free Market" a HUGE success!
Loads and loads of items were distributed to the families in our community. Furniture, electronics, toys, clothing, and so much more were given completely free of charge. The community families were grateful. Our church family was bound once more as we worked side by side. And, many attics are breathing a sigh of relief as a result.
Thank you Pastor for setting our hearts on service, and for giving us the challenge from Acts 2. Thank you also (and Kathy) for all of the preparatory work that went into this venture. And, thank you CBC for your love for serving the Lord,
which makes serving along side of you such a joy!

Thank you!

Teamwork Requested...

Dear CBC family,

We have so enjoyed the FDM ministry that was developed around this time last year. Our body has truly grown closer to one another as together, we considered some family issues before the Lord and from His Word.

We would like to launch the second year of the ministry. We are so excited for what the Lord will continue to do in our midst.

We are asking that you prayerfully consider whether the Lord would have you to join a team of people who would plan and run the FDM ministry in 2010. We would need others who share the vision of this ministry to join us and help us to carry out the various elements involved in planning and executing the monthly events. Please contact us if the Lord lays this on your heart.

Without a team of co-laborers, we are not currently able to fulfill all of the responsibilities that are necessary for carrying this ministry along. Our committment to other ministries at church, although temporary, are very heavy as far as the time and work required to lead them. We do not want to step out of the FDM, only add a team to make its planning less burdensome on our own family.

With love,
Keith and Cyndi

A reminder to live as families who are faithful to Christ in the last days...

Malachi 4

The Day of the LORD 1 "Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire," says the LORD Almighty. "Not a root or a branch will be left to them. 2 But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall. 3 Then you will trample down the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I do these things," says the LORD Almighty.
4 "Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel.
5 "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse."

It's been a great year!

This year, CBC launched the Family Discipleship Ministry. Since March, we have had biblical instruction and discussion on topics such as, "The Biblical Role of Family Members", "Training our Children to Serve", "Family Devotions", "Crafting a Biblical Vision for our Families", "Navigating the World's Culture", and "Family Worship". Praise the Lord for His work in the lives of our families, and for His wonderful Word which illumines our way.

Our activity time has included such events as game night, distribution of love packets to our community, Scripture treasure hunt, regressive dinner, and a movie night. Young and "not so young" enjoyed our bond in Christ as His family.

The Family Discipleship Ministry will resume in January. May God draw us all closer to one another, as we draw nearer and nearer to Him.

Time Changer
October 30th, 2009

Calvary Bible Church, 7:00 P.M.

More Information

Movie Night FAQ

1.Why are we being asked to bring along our own seating?
The usual folding chairs will be available for use in the gym, but we thought that you might appreciate the option of bringing along something a little more comfortable. We suggest your favorite lawn chairs, bean-bag chairs, or even a blanket for the little guys.

2.What is the schedule for the evening?
We will begin with a 15-minute time of elder-led instruction (Robert Lowrie). At 7:30 we will begin the "Time Changer" movie. It will end around 9:20 P.M. A very brief discussion time will follow the movie. Our event should end by 9:30 P.M.

3. Is the church seeking to make a profit on the sale of the DVD's?
No. We will not benefit financially from the sale of the DVD's.

FYI: Although there is no cost to those of us who are attending the movie, as a church we did have to pay a fee to the producer for permission to show the film publically. However, by offering the DVD's for sale, the producer is allowing us to show the movie for half of the usual charge... even if we don't sell any.

4. What is included in the 4-Film Bundle?
If you purchase the film, "Time Changer", you recieve 3 other Rich Christiano films free. They are, "End of the Harvest", "The Appointment", and "Second Glance".

DeLorme Family Review: Like "Time Changer", these films are also biblically sound and family friendly. However, they were created in the late 80's and early 90's and do reflect the styles, music, and technology of that time. This is a bit distracting, in our opinion.

We preferred, "Unidentified" which followed "Time Changer". It is NOT included in the 4-Film Bundle but is available for order ($10). It is like "Time Changer" in quality and is excellently produced.

5. FYI: Rich Christiano has a movie that is currently out in theaters..."The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry". We have not seen it, but others who have seen it have told us that it is also excellent!
